We all love to travel. Everyone has their own reason to love travelling. For some it is part of their job, few love it as they love visiting different places and exploring new cultures and traditions. For people like me it is all about visiting home country. But unfortunately, travelling has its own disadvantages. Increase in pollution, natural habitat loss and depletion of local natural resources are a few to name. Here are a few tips that we can follow while travelling to make it an #EcoTravel. - Before leaving for the vacation, ensure the well being of your green friends in the house in your absence . Prevent them from withering and dying by enabling self watering systems . Look out for an alternative like summer camp for plants or request one of your neighbours or friends to look after them while you are away. - Pack wisely. Take the first step towards greener travelling. Pack lighter and thus reduce the amount of fuel consumed by the vehicle in which you are travelling. Pack reusable water bottles , reusable shopping bags (like those made of jute or cloth), washable towels and napkins to prevent the use of one time plastic items and tissues wherever possible throughout the trip/vacation. - Carry eco friendly toiletries and prevent the negative impact on your travel destination. - Unplug your home. Regardless of whether the appliances are being used or not, they consume energy. So unplug everything in your home before leaving and reduce the consumption of energy. - Once you reach the destination leave no trace . No matter where you travel, the only thing that you should leave behind is footprint. - Contribute a bit towards the place if possible by leaving it even better than you found it. Create environmental awareness among the people living there, conduct or participate in beach/forest clean-up activities, plant a tree or simply pick up trash and toss it in waste containers. Following the above steps will reduce the amount of negative impact on environment as a result of travelling. Let us follow the same and be responsible Earth Dwellers!
