My role model- Habiba Al Marashi
Habiba Al Marashi is the co-founder and Chairperson of Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), a pioneering non-government organization based in Dubai. A U.A.E. national, Habiba began her professional career in government service and was nominated to the Dubai Government Excellence Awards in 2000.
She founded EEG in 1991 with 12 like-minded people while she was still holding a seat in the government office. Under Mrs. Al Marashi's leadership, EEG bloomed from a small voluntary organization to a large network both locally and globally. EEG is the only civil society organization in the region accredited by UNEP and UNCCD. The EEG organizes various programs and campaigns such as Repeat. Recycle. Reforest, One Neighbourhood one Communi-tree, The annual tree planting event and many more.
Her actions and efforts hold me spell bound by her sense of dedication and passion towards her love for nature, which is evident in the way she gave up her government job to start the esteemed Emirates Environment Group.
Habiba Al Marashi is a beacon of inspiration and hope among the young minds of UAE. Apart from aiming to nurture the world’s ecology back to its original glory, she encourages the development of opportunity free of the gender bias. She inspires people from every walk of life to do what they can and what they must to make the world the best place to live in for the future of mankind.
Habiba al Marashi has inspired me to see the best of myself through establishing and performing my duty towards the global society and environment. She is an evidence that we must practice what we preach and follow our passion.
I am a member of the EEG and for the past two years I have participated in more than 5 programs, successfully meeting the target mark in all programs. The programs are designed to keep all members engaged throughout the year, thus ensuring active participation.
Given the impending danger the world faces due to disposable goods, the action of Habiba Al Marashi does instigate us members of EEG fall in action when we see a littered location, generally a public visiting spot.
Habiba Al Marashi inspires many young minds to overcome the barriers of gender and persevere with determination not only for ourselves, but for the betterment of the whole world.
We must all seek moral guidance from the life of a distinguished personality such as herself and successfully fulfill our duty and responsibility, while taking in pride and honor, while simultaneously adding laurels to our identity, community and the global society as a living unit.
