The greatest inspiration of mine, being an ambassador of student for Earth would be His highness sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and ruler of the Emirate of Dubai for his fundamental principle on constructing the key pillars of sustainable environment. His initiative includes the following wide range of programs towards a sustainable environment which I was greatly inspired to follow his footprints for our future generation.
Expo 2020-
· Generating clean energy
Expo 2020 will produce clean energy through renewable resources, reducing overall consumption of energy by in areas such as exterior lighting and building efficiency.
· Reducing water consumption
Potable water consumption will be minimised through cutting-edge approaches, such converting moisture in the air into water.
· Promoting natural solutions
Visitors will remain cool and comfortable, they can enjoy a variety of walkable spaces and an abundance of landscaped areas managed without the use of chemical pesticides or fertilisers.
· Minimising our carbon footprint
Carbon emissions will be minimised through a strategy to offset greenhouse gases, and public transport initiatives will help further decrease the carbon footprint.
· Reducing waste
Expo 2020 aims to divert 85 per cent of all waste from landfill by reducing, reusing, recycling and repurposing – turning waste into everything from fertiliser to souvenir t-shirts.
Vision 2021
Vision 2021 is a long-term plan that aims to make the UAE one of the best countries in the world by the year 2021.One of the key pillar is united in prosperity: A nurturing and sustainable environment for quality living. It focuses on
· Improving the air quality index
· Improving the percentage of treated waste of total waste generated
· Improving the share of clean energy contribution
· Decreasing the water scarcity index.
Green Buildings
· His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority in co-operation with Dubai Municipality, has launched the Green Building Regulations & Specifications, for regulating the criteria that allows adequacy in consumption of electricity, water and renewed energy as part of the green buildings project in Dubai, which make savings of around AED10 billion until 2030.
Environmental Tourism
· One of the initiatives of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing in Dubai is embodied in the Dubai Green Tourism Award, which was launched last year by Dubai Government with the aim of reducing carbon emission from hotels by 20 per cent.
MOHAMMAD BIN RASHID AL MAKTOUM SOLAR PARK (DEWA), DUBAI
· The solar park will contribute to enhancing the efficiency of using the natural resources and reducing the carbon footprint.
The Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050
· In November 2015, Sheikh Mohammed launched Dubai Clean Energy Strategy which aims to produce 75 per cent of its energy requirements from clean sources by 2050.
Only a great leader can guide his people for a better tomorrow, a green economy for sustainability and for me he is the true hero.
