Think globally, act locally!

Waste segregation is the separating and sorting of waste to facilitate recycling. By taking up this task, I realized that a lot of things go into the bin which could be put to a better use. I set up a 'wet waste' and 'dry waste' bin and started collecting waste not only in my house but also in my area. I was able to collect 345 kgs of dry waste consisting of plastic bottles, glass bottles, newspapers and magazines and 98 kgs of wet waste consisting of fruit peels and leftover vegetables or meat within a span of 4 days. I decided to use the dry waste to make crafts or give it to a recycling company and along with my mom, we made manure out of the wet waste and used it in our kitchen garden for better fertility .

By recycling waste you can help to divert recyclable waste away from landfill. This negates the need for costly landfill taxes that continue to rise in an attempt to discourage the practice wherever possible. Your waste can be delivered to transfer stations where it is segregated and recycled which is far cheaper than landfill disposal.

Waste recycling saves natural resources and raw materials that would be used to produce a recycled product are preserved. In addition, natural resources are used more sparingly helping to protect their longevity.

It is essential for us to segregate waste so that we can protect everybody’s health. We must not only focus on caring about our health here. If these wastes are segregated properly, then the risk of cuts or bruises that rag pickers and garbage collectors may experience will be avoided. If those people cut their finger, then they may get infections. Therefore, it will lead to health danger.
